New Student Scholarships
New Student Scholarships: In recent days, the Sindh government has taken a welcome and revolutionary step for female students studying in government schools across the province. According to a notification issued by the Education Department, female students studying in classes VI, IX and X in government schools in Sindh will be given scholarships during the academic year 2024-25. This initiative will not only help in the promotion of education but will also provide relief to families belonging to the poor and middle class.
Eligibility for Scholarship
The Sindh Education Department has set clear criteria regarding the eligibility for the scholarship. Only those female students will be eligible for the scholarship who are studying in schools with the SEMIS code. SEMIS codes are actually special codes given by the education department to government schools, which indicate the registration and quality of the schools. Importantly, the scholarship will be given only to those girl students who are studying in class VI, IX or X. Apart from this, the attendance of the girl students is also an important condition. According to the official notification, the attendance of the girl students should be at least 60 percent in the months of August, September, October, November and December. Otherwise, they will not be eligible for the scholarship. New Student Scholarships.

Scholarship Amount and Purpose
Although the amount of the scholarship has not been officially announced yet, keeping in mind the past schemes, it is expected that each girl student will be given a reasonable amount on a monthly or annual basis. Its main objective is to attract girl students towards education, reduce the school dropout rate and promote the process of making girls independent.
Parents and Public Response
This move by the Sindh government is being highly appreciated by the public. Parents, teachers, and female students have welcomed this decision. Parents, especially from rural areas, have called this move a “mercy” as it will not only reduce the burden of education but will also reduce financial difficulties to some extent.”We want to educate our girls, but due to poverty, most of the children are not able to go to school. This scholarship from the Sindh government will be very helpful for us.”

Hope for an Increase in Girls’ Education
There’s no denying that girls in rural Pakistan still struggle to access quality education. These include financial difficulties, social attitudes, and lack of educational institutions. In such circumstances, this step by the Sindh government can prove to be very effective in promoting girls’ education. The number of girls going to school in Pakistan continues to decline. A major reason for this is that parents are depriving their children of education due to lack of financial resources. But if the scholarship is given on a continuous basis and an effective monitoring system is established, this rate can increase.
Attendance Condition
The attendance condition has been appreciated by some quarters as it will force the girl students to come to school regularly. The 60% attendance condition will not only improve the quality of education but will also reduce the rate of unnecessary absenteeism.
Suggestions for the Future
Along with this positive step, the scheme can prove to be more effective if the Sindh government takes some additional steps:
- Timely payment of the amount: The payment of the scholarship should be transparent and timely so that the trust of the parents is maintained.
- Teacher training: Teachers should be trained to guide and motivate the girl students.
- Use of technology: Attendance and performance should be monitored digitally through the SEMIS code.
- Parental awareness: Parents should be fully informed about the procedure and conditions of the scholarship

Conclusion
This decision of the Sindh government is a commendable step that can bring about a significant change in the education of girls. This will not only increase the morale of the female students but will also raise the standard of education in the province. It is hoped that other provinces will also learn from this example and take practical steps to promote the education of female students across the country.
