Smart Model Villages
The Punjab government has launched a revolutionary project for the development of the province’s rural areas. With the formal approval of the “Smart Model Villages,” Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz sets the stage to transform thousands of Punjab’s villages with modern facilities and improved living standards. This step is not only a major step towards rural development but will also play a key role in improving the overall socio-economic condition of Punjab.
Scope of the Model Village Project
The Punjab government has set a target of converting 2,400 villages into model villages in the initial phase. Out of these, the Punjab government itself will provide funds for 800 villages, while the World Bank will provide grants for the remaining 1,600 villages. This initiative is not only sustainable in terms of funding but also reflects world-class development planning.
The Local Government Minister has been Given Responsibility
For the successful completion of this major project, the Chief Minister of Punjab has given a special task to the Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique. Under his leadership, this project will be implemented so that every rural area can be equipped with the basic amenities of a modern lifestyle.

This means that development work in each village will be carried out sustainably, taking into account environmental protection, and is in line with modern engineering standards.

Phased Implementation
More than 60% of Punjab’s villages will be upgraded into model villages through a step-by-step plan. This gradual process will not only make it possible to monitor and improve the project but also to carry out development work, keeping in mind the specific conditions of each area.
Unlocking Economic Potential Through Rural Development
The majority of Pakistan’s population lives in rural areas, and their economy depends on agriculture. If modern facilities and infrastructure are improved in villages, it will have a direct impact on agricultural production, local employment, and overall economic development. The Model Village Project will not only improve the lives of rural areas but will also reduce the increasing pressure on urban areas. Clean water, better drainage, bright streets, and clean roads will not only reduce health problems but will also bring significant improvement in the lifestyle of the people.
